ममता पर चुनाव आयोग के एक्शन से पहले प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी और ममता बनर्जी रैलियों में एक दूसरे पर चुनावी हमले करते रहे. पांचवें चरण की वोटिंग में मतुआ समुदाय और गोरखालैंड के मुद्दे की अहम भूमिका है. ऐसे में रैलियों का फोकस इन मुद्दों पर था. 17 अप्रैल को बंगाल में पांचवें चरण की वोटिंग है. 6 जिलों के 45 विधानसभा सीटों पर वोट डाले जाएंगे. उत्तर बंगाल के तीन जिलों दार्जिलिंग कालिम्पोंग और जलपाईगुड़ी की 13 सीटें दांव पर हैं. जबकि दक्षिण बंगाल के तीन जिलों उत्तर 24-परगना, पूर्व बर्दवान और नदिया की 32 सीटों पर वोट डाले जाएंगे. वहीं, उत्तर बंगाल में बीजेपी ने सेंध लगाई हैं, जबकि दक्षिण बंगाल में टीएमसी का दबदबा है.
