बिहार सरकार ने जातिगत जनगणना के आंकड़े जारी कर दिए हैं. इसमें '36 फीसदी अत्यंत पिछड़ा, 27 फीसदी पिछड़ा वर्ग, 19 फीसदी से थोड़ी ज्यादा अनुसूचित जाति और दो फीसदी से कम अनुसूचित जनजाति की जनसंख्या बताई गई है। बिहार में सामान्य वर्ग की आबादी 15 फीसदी से कुछ ज्यादा है. जाति के मुताबिक देखें तो कोइरी- 4 फीसदी से ज्यादाकुर्मी- करीब तीन फीसदीकायस्थ- आधे फीसदी से कुछ ज्यादा मोची, रविदास- पांच फीसदी ब्राह्मण- करीब चार फीसदी भूमिहार हैं.
The Bihar government has completed its controversial caste-based survey. The census revealed that the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) comprise 63 per cent of the state's population. The Census shows that Scheduled Castes account for over 19 per cent of the 13-crore population, while Scheduled Tribes make up 1.68 per cent. The upper castes, or 'savarnas', form 15.52 per cent of state's population.
