अगर आप भी खा जाते हैं इन शब्दों में चक्कर तो जानें इनके सही अर्थ

Homophones ऐसे शब्‍दों को कहते हैं जिनके उच्‍चारण तो एक जैसे होते हैं लेकिन मतलब अलग- अलग. यही वजह है कि हम ज्‍यादातर होमोफोन का इस्‍तेमाल गलत तरीके से करते हैं.

अंग्रेजी भाषा में यूं तो बहुत से Homophones हैं लेकिन आम बोलचाल में कुछ शब्दों का इस्तेमाल खूब होता है. जानते हैं कौन से हैं वे शब्द -

1. there-their-they're
There: यह वाक्‍य में Pronoun or an adverb की तरह इस्तेमाल होता है. (we went to Paris and stayed there for ten days)
Their: Pronoun (Everyone has their own way of doing things.)
They're: Contracted version of they are (they're happy).

2. accept-except
Accept: यह एक Verb है, जिसका मतलब है किसी चीज को अपनाना.
(Give her a little time to accept the idea)
Except: यह Preposition है, जिसका मतलब अलग करना या छांटना होता है.
(I didn't tell him anything, except that I needed the money)

3. lose-loose
Lose: किसी चीज को खो देने पर इस शब्‍द का प्रयोग किया जाता है.
(Tonight, I lose him forever)
Loose: किसी चीज के  सही ढ़ंग से फिट नहीं होने पर इसका प्रयोग किया जाता है.
(The dog got loose and ran out of the yard.)

4. it's-its
It's: यह it is या it has को एक साथ प्रयोग करने के लिए लिखा जाता है.
(It's cold in here.)

Its: It is a possessive form
(I really like the way that car looks, but its price is more than I can afford.)

5. bear-bare
Bear: Either the animal or a verb. Meaning is to carry or support.
(I could not bear to see her punished. - यहां शब्द का अर्थ बर्दाश्त करने से है. )

Bare: Not being clothed or covered
(Don't go out in bare feet - यानी नंगे पैर बाहर न जाओ)

6. carat-caret-carrot
Carat- सोने की शुद्धता मापने के लिए प्रयोग किया जाने वाला शब्‍द
Caret- किसी लाइन के नीचे बनाया जाने वाला निशान
Carrot- एक प्रकार की सब्‍जी

7. to-two-too
To- यह preposition है. (I am going to the store.)
Two- नंबर
Too- यह Adverb है, जिसका मतलब होता है 'also' (भी).
(I can see you too.)

8. week-weak
Week- सप्‍ताह
(I am going home this week.)
Weak- शरीर से कमजोर होना
(You are looking very weak today.)

9. prey-pray
Prey- शिकार करना
(The deer fell a prey to the lion)
Pray- प्रार्थना करना
(We should pray to God atleast one time in the day.)

10. weather-whether
Weather- मौसम
(Weather is not good today)
Whether- Expressing a doubt, संशय होना
(I'll see whether she's at home)

11. then-than
then- यह adverb है, जिसे एक्‍शन के समय प्रयोग किया जाता है.
(First you tie your laces and then run.)
than- यह conjunction है, जिसका प्रयोग तुलना के लिए किया जाता है.
(My dress is better than yours.)
