बंगाल का एक बहुत बड़ा भाग पानी की समस्या से जूझ रहा है. आने वाले बंगाल चुनाव के लिए पार्टियों ने रैलियों में बड़े बड़े मुद्दे उठाये लेकिन सबसे अहम मुद्दा ही सब भूल गए. खास कर कि पुरुलिया इस गंभीर समस्या से जूझ रहा है. यहां नल सूख चुके हैं और पीने का पानी लाने के लिए लोगों को कई किलोमीटर तक की दूरी तय करनी पड़ती है.
