ममता सरकार में मुख्य सचिव रहे अलफन बंदोपाध्याय का कार्यकाल 31 मई को ही खत्म होना था. शपथ लेने के बाद ममता बनर्जी ने अपने मुख्य सचिव का कार्यकाल तीन महीने बढ़ाने का प्रस्ताव दिया, जो केंद्र ने मंजूर भी कर दिया था. लेकिन जब चक्रवाती तूफ़ान यास से हुए नुक़सान का जायज़ा लेने के लिए प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने एक समीक्षा बैठक बुलाई तो उसमें न तो बंगाल की मुख्यमंत्री ने हिस्सा लिया और न ही मुख्य सचिव अलफन ने. बाद में बैठक में आधे घंटे देरी से ममता बनर्जी पहुंची और नुकसान की रिपोर्ट देकर चली गईं. बैठक वाली घटना के कुछ ही घंटे बाद केंद्र ने ममता सरकार में मुख्य सचिव को डेपुटेशन पर 31 मई को दिल्ली पहुंचने को कहा. ममता बनर्जी ने अपने अफसर को रिलीज करने से मना कर दिया. देखें वीडियो.
